Least-squares Spectral Element Methods

چکیده

In setting up this workshop we had to decide whether we wanted to let you become familiar with the method in a complex setting – non-linear, time-dependent calculations – or restrict ourselves to simpler problems, which allows you to get a better understanding of the method. We have chosen for the second line for several reasons: 1) The method is quite new, so it is hard to find references which address the more theoretical issues, and 2) The extension to more complicated problems merely requires time (and a fair amount of book-keeping).

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Bending of Straight Beams Using hp-Spectral Approximations

Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed using traditional finite element interpolations (i.e., Hermite cubic or equi-spaced Lagrange functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, total rotation φ and/or shear strain γxz, or in the integral form u...

Least-squares Spectral Element Methods for Compressible Flows

This paper describes the application of the leastsquares spectral element method to compressible flow problems. The method is described and results are presented for subsonic, transonic and supersonic flow problems over a bump.

Large - eddy simulation of a backward facing step ow using a least - squares spectral element methodBy

We report preliminary results obtained from the large eddy simulation of a backward facing step at a Reynolds number of 5100. The numerical platform is based on a high order Legendre spectral element spatial discretization and a least squares time integration scheme. A non-reeective outtow boundary condition is in place to minimize the eeect of downstream innuence. Smagorinsky model with Van Dr...

A spectral mimetic least-squares method for the Stokes equations with no-slip boundary condition

Formulation of locally conservative least-squares finite element methods (LSFEM) for the Stokes equations with the no-slip boundary condition has been a long standing problem. Existing LSFEMs that yield exactly divergence free velocities require nonstandard boundary conditions [3], while methods that admit the no-slip condition satisfy the incompressibility equation only approximately [4, Chapt...
